FLU (INFLUENZA)

Influenza, or flu, is a viral infection that predominently affects the nose, throat and airways (bronchi), and occasionally the lungs.8 Clinical signs of the flu include sudden onset of high fever, aching muscles, headache, tiredness, and weakness.9 The single best way to prevent influenza infection is through vaccination each flu season.10 The World Health Organization recommends annual influenza vaccination for subjects at risk, such as:11

  • pregnant women
  • children 6 months to 5 years of age
  • the elderly (65 years of age and over)
  • people of all ages with medical conditions such as asthma or other chronic lung or heart conditions.
