MOSQUITO – RELATED DISEASES

Malaria, Dengue, and Zika Virus1,2 are some of the diseases that mosquitoes carry and spread across the globe. Pakistan is amongst the most malaria prone countries in South Asia. Malaria kills a child every 40 seconds globally. Infants and pregnant women are the most vulnerable to malaria with high mortality rate.3 Half a million malaria cases occur annually with Sindh and Baluchistan being affected the most because of lack of awareness and improper sewerage system.4

Sindh Malaria Control Programme has recorded 44,731 malaria cases across the province last year out of which 1,667 were from Karachi.5 Prevention of malaria and other mosquito borne diseases involve protecting yourself against mosquito bites by applying effective mosquito repellants.
